Description
11" (28 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulderplate, blue glass enamel inset eyes, painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with accent line between the lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French kid poupee body. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Gaultier, circa 1880, the doll is wearing her studio original rich burgundy velvet gown with faux ermine trim, matching cap and jewels, and has original ink script paper label "Anne de Bretagne" indicating her depiction as the Queen Consort of France from 1491-1498, and again 1499-1514 when she died at the young age of 36. Value Points: rare all-original presentation in remarkable state of preservation.
