16" (41 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta shoulderhead depicting man with eager expression, impressed age lines and well-defined cheek bones, pronounced nose, enamel eyes, mouth modeled as though open with row of teeth and tongue, bald pate with scruffy painted finish, modeled row of curls at forehead and above the ears, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, painted green stockings with tan shoes and green buckles, wearing original red textured silk breeches and matching jacket, green vest with self-covered buttons, white muslin shirt, burgundy velvet hat. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, early 1700s, attributed to Salvatore di Franco whose works can also be seen in the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum in Munich.
