10" (25 cm.) Each has paper mache head with highly-colored theatrical complexions and painted features, paper mache and cloth bodies with dramatically long fingers, glued-on silk slippers with cord trim. Condition: generally excellent, one with throat repair. Comments: Chinese, early 1900s, the dolls represented characters from performances of the Chinese opera. Value Points: each is wearing its original very elaborately-embroidered costume and headdress. From the family collection assembled by Mary Louise Ulmer Ellsworth and her parents of Pottsville, PA. during their Far East travels in the early 1900s; the dolls have remained in the family until this time.
