19" (48 cm.) Solid domed bisque socket head with two different faces that can be alternately revealed, one face with brown glass sleep eyes and closed mouth modeled as though wide open and smiling, with extravagant long curly lashes and brows; the other face with painted dark blue eyes with heavy eyelids, curved brows, closed mouth modeled as though open and scowling, and with deeply-impressed scowling creases at temple; with painted brushstroked blonde hair, composition bent limb baby body, antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 159 12. Comments: Hertel and Schwab, circa 1915. Value Points: rare doll with well-rendered characterizations of happy/sad children.
