Description
4 1/2" (11 cm.) x 4". The brass-framed portrait under glass depicts a sepia toned painting of a winged curly-locked child with beautifully-painted eyes. Ink script on the back notes "Frederica Selina Law aged 4 years, 4th daug. of lst Lord Ellenborough, Painted by Wm J. Thomson, R.S.A. 1809". Excellent condition. William John Thomson was born in Savannah Georgia in 1771 of British loyalist parents, early on left America for London, studied painting, and exhibited at the Royal Academy. He died in 1845.
