25" (64 cm.) Standing upon a velvet-covered platform is a white-faced paper-mache clown with brown glass eyes,leather eyelids,white clown complexion with painted blush on nose tip and cheeks,and painted card symbols,slightly parted lips with movable tongue,mohair wig,carton torso and legs,wire upper arms,paper-mache hands,wearing silk clown costume and holding a violin. When wound,he turns and nods his head,his eyelids blink,he sticks his tongue in and out,and he strums the violin,while two musical tunes play. Condition: generally excellent,mechanism and music function well. Marks: L.B. (key) (original music tune paper label indicating "Santa Lucia" and "Carmen"). Comments: Leopold Lambert,circa 1885. Value Points: rare automaton with well preserved original finish,amusing activities.
