Description
13" (33 cm.) and 15". Each has sculpted earthenware head with deeply defined facial features and hair,enamel eyes,hemp-wrapped body,terra cotta lower arms with expressive fingers,and lower legs with sculpted stockings and boots. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Neopolitan,early 1800s. Value Points: the gray-haired woman has expressive smiling face with painted teeth,and wears finely detailed costume; and the balding man with curly side locks,red-tipped nose,a cheek wart,and original villager costume. Being sold from the Strong Museum to benefit the collection funds,ex-collection Margaret Woodbury Strong.
