13" (33 cm.) Terra cotta head with painted features, complexion, hair and moustache, armature wrapped body with terra cotta hands, posed on original wooden stand. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: from a series of WWI soldiers, exhibited at the Musee de la Guerre in Vincennes, France in 1934, commemorating the 20th anniversary of that war's beginning; an article about the soldiers appeared in the French magazine L'Illustration in 1934 along with hand-tinted photographs of each figure. Value Points: extremely rare, with superbly constructed costume of fine blue woolens representing "Tenue de Campagne" (Soldier fitted for the War Front), with detail of construction including brass buttons, laced fitted kidskin boots, and a number of accessories including ammunition bag, metal helmet, bed roll, canteen, wooden rifle, clogs, twill sacks and portfolios.
