13" (33 cm.) and 14". Each has earthenware head with deeply sculpted and richly painted facial features and hair,enamel eyes,hemp-wrapped body,earthenware lower arms with expressive hands and sculpted socks and shoes. Including woman with elaborately sculpted loosely woven coiffure and tiny painted teeth; and the man with defined facial wrinkles,flowing hair,highly characterized face,and unusual boots. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Neopolitan,early 1800s. Value Points: rare character faces,wonderful original costumes. Being sold from The Strong Museum to benefit the collection funds,ex-collection Margaret Woodbury Strong.
