14" (36 cm.) l. Polychromed terra cotta bull is posed on wooden base with ground cover, his head turned to the side, enamel eyes, brown shaded coat with white muzzle, sculpted ears, horns, and deeply-incised mane, tail with sculpted curly tail tip, and deeply defined musculature. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, early 1700s, the sculpture of animals was an integral and significant aspect of the presepio scene, utilizing the skills of celebrated court sculptors such as the Vassallo brothers and Francesco Gallo from whom this particular luxury work might be the product.
