Description
26" (66 cm.) and 24". Each has bisque socket head with blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, lushly-painted lashes and brows, thick brushstroked and feathered brows, rose blushed eye shadow, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with outlined lips, pierced ears, white periwig in the 18th century style, French composition and wooden fully-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG Bte SGDG (the man marked size 12, the woman size 11, each with artist checkmarks) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body). Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1889, the size and luxury costuming of the bebes suggests their appearance at exhibition, probably L'Exposition Internationale of Paris in 1889. Value Points: the extraordinary pair are wearing their Jumeau original couturier costumes of Marquis and Marquise of richest velvet and hand-painted silk with silver metallic appliques and exquisite silk trims.
