26" (66 cm.) Paper mache shoulderhead of lady with oval face and very elongated strong throat, sculpted hair with four thick rows of curls at each side of centerpart which flank a rolled chignon at the crown known as "Apollo Knot", and with extra details of painted feathering at forehead edge, painted brown hair, black upper eyeliner, single stroke brows, aquiline nose, closed mouth, softly-blushed cheeks, slender muslin body and wooden limbs, antique cotton gown with lantern sleeves and ruched bodice, undergarments. Condition: paper mache good/very good with few typical rubs, old touch-up on lower shoulderplate, body has some age albeit not original. Comments: Germany, circa 1850. Value Points: rare and elaborately sculpted coiffure, rare brown eyes. The doll owns a slim volume of poems, Whispering Voices, by Maude Eunice Williams, a previous owner of this doll.
