Description
15" (38 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulderplate, large blue glass enamel inset eyes, painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth, auburn mohair wig over cork pate, original muslin poupee body with kid arms, stitched and separated fingers. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 3 (head and shoulders) F.G. (shoulders). Comments: Gaultier, circa 1885. Value Points: superbly-preserved, the doll is wearing luxurious traditional costume of Arles, France including garnet silk skirt and matching garnet four-fold fichu over four-fold lace fichu, lace topknot with velvet band cover, and rare double-sided Jeannette cross. The doll was featured in the book, French Dolls in Folklore Costume by Florence Theriault, page 103.
