Description
7" (18 cm.) Each has solid domed bisque socket head, one with painted brown hair having pronounced topknot and side curls, the other with black bobbed hair with stippled bangs, each with painted facial features, side-glancing googly eyes with impish expression, curvy brows, rounded nose, closed mouth with watermelon slice-shaped smile, five-piece composition body with antique costume, painted shoes and socks. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 32-14/0 (Moritz) 31-12/0 (Max). Comments: Recknagel, circa 1920, depicting Max and Moritz as they appeared in the Katzenjammer Kids comic strip, popular at the time, and originally inspired by the 19th century books by Wilhelm Busch. Value Points: rare models with especially fine modeling for their small size, great characterization.
