17" (43 cm.) Bisque socket head portraying child with wide beaming smile, narrow brown glass inset eyes in half-moon shape, fringed lashes, brush-stroked delicate brows, shaded nostrils of pronounced distinctive nose, closed mouth modeled as though open with beaming smile, shaded lips, auburn mohair wig, French composition and wooden fully jointed body. Condition: generally excellent, body repainted. Marks: Van Rozen France Depose (raised lettering at back of head). Comments: designed by Jeanne Van Rozen, known for her sculptures of animals and soldiers, became involved in the French Renaissance of the doll movement, circa 1915, and designed a few character models which were produced in extremely limited numbers. Value Points: rare model with distinctive sculpting that appears nearly hand pressed and lends a highly personalized expression.
