17" (43 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta head turned to the side, sculpted brown hair with deep curls waved from face, well-shaped short beard and moustache, enamel eyes, strong nose, mouth modeled as though closed with painted teeth, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, bare feet, wearing early costume comprising lined green silk jacket and breeches, gilt metallic lapel and braid, burgundy brocade fitted shirt with rhinestone buttons, matching cap and carrying wooden walking stick with carved bone grip and tip. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, early 1700s, especially fine characterization, outstanding sculpting of hands and feet.
