Description
17" (43 cm.) Posed seated upon a velvet covered base is a lady with bisque swivel head on bisque shoulderplate, blue glass paperweight inset eyes, painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with center accent line, pierced ears, brunette mohair wig over cork pate, and having shapely lady's torso and slender long legs, wire upper arms and bisque forearms. She is wearing elaborate ruffled organdy gown in the Spanish carnival style, and is holding a decorated tambourine in one hand, and a carnival mask in the other. When wound, she turns her head side to side nodding in elaborate manner, and alternately shakes the tambourine and then lifts the mask to her face; periodically she taps her foot. Meanwhile music plays. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: L.B. (key) (original paper tune label on base indicating two tunes, "Rip Rip Rance des Enfants" and "Norma: Me Protegge"). Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1888. Value Points: rare automaton in beautiful presentation and with well-functioning music and movements.
