Description
25" (64 cm.) (including hat). Standing upon a velvet-covered base is a bisque-head clown with white complexion, painted decoration, highly-characterized sculpted features, blue glass inset eyes, rosy nose tip, closed mouth, brunette mohair wig, carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms, wearing original silk costume including ivory silk vest and shirt, red silk jacket with long tails, trousers, and with loosely attached hat and holding a brass chain. When wound, music plays, he turns his head to the side, his chest heaves up and down as though breathing, his hat lifts up and down, and his right arm lifts up and down as though showing off his intertwined chain. Condition: bisque excellent, mechanism and music function well. Comments: Roullet et Decamps, circa 1890. Value Points: delightful presentation, especially chest breathing and hat lifting, enhanced by highly-characterized facial expression.
