Description
6 1/2" (17 cm.) Waist-up porcelain half-doll depicting an 18th century lady with elaborate grey curls tumbling onto her shoulders, very wide-brimmed green bonnet decorated with six lavish white feathers, sculpted costume with low bodice, her hands extended from body and holding a fan. Marks: (blue stamp crown over N). Excellent condition. Germany, circa 1900, Ernst Bohne Sohne, the superb half-doll with extravagantly-feathered bonnet likely portrays Marie Antoinette as she was depicted in 18th century oil paintings. A popular model it was created in various manners including this half-doll and as a full figurine (lot#52).
