Description
14" (36 cm.) Porcelain shoulderhead, black sculpted hair in centerpart, with uniform finger curls behind the modeled ears, painted brown eyes, red and black upper eyeliner, single stroke brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with center accent line, muslin stitch-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, circa 1865, the doll is presented in fine original trunk with decoupage trim on interior compartments, along with an extensive handmade trousseau comprising six various dresses, two woolen capes, linen cape, three skirts, six aprons, five shirts or blouses, velvet ankle boots, leather slippers, and two early quilts. An early sepia photograph in the trunk is identified by its wrapped paper as being Edith Wentworth, descended from the early colonial family of Governor Wentworth of New Hampshire. Value Points: wonderful facial expression enhanced by rare brown eyes, with extensive trunk and trousseau, and tantalizing fragments of original family history. With blue ribbon award from Doll Collectors of America.
