30" (76 cm.) Pressed bisque socket head with delicate bisque and very full cheeks,large blue glass paperweight inset eyes,dark eyeliner,painted lashes,brushstroked and feathered brows,mauve-blushed eye shadow,shaded nostrils,closed mouth with shaded outlined lips,separately modeled pierced ears,blonde mohair wig over cork pate,French composition and wooden fully jointed body with plump limbs and jointed wrists. Condition: generally excellent,original body and body finish. Marks: 13 (head) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body). Comments: Emile Jumeau,circa 1884,the model sculpted by the famed French artist,Carrier-Belleuse,known as Bebe Triste,in reference to its sad expression. Value Points: especially beautiful bisque and painting,the bebe wears lovely antique costume comprising dress,undergarments,stockings,leather shoes,and with wonderful rose mohair plush coat and matching bonnet with silk bow trim,and wooden-handled parasol with faux-bone duck-head handle.
