Description
16" (41 cm.) Seated upon a paper mache fountain with glass "waterfall" emanating from the mouth of an ormolu lion head is a bisque-headed doll with very large blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, lush eyelashes, brushstroked brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with outlined lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, carton torso and legs in seated pose, wire upper arms, bisque forearms, silk dress, shoes and elegantly-decorated floral bonnet. She holds a floral corsage in her right hand, and a string with ball in her other. A grey tabby cat sits at her feet. When wound, the little girl turns her head side-to-side, and alternately lifts the floral corsage and then the string and ball as though teasing the kitten; music plays. Condition: generally excellent, music and motion function well. Marks: F (doll head). Comments: French, circa 1890. Value Points: especially beautiful face enhances the charming childlike activity on the rare automaton.
