15" (38 cm.) Pale bisque head with flat-cut edge to neck socket, designed to accommodate to paper mache dowel which protrudes from the neck of the torso, allowing the head to swivel, rounded facial modeling, almond-shaped blue glass enamel inset eyes with spiral threading, dark eyeliner, painted curly lashes, lightly feathered brows, accented eye corners and nostrils of tiny pertly shaped nose, closed mouth with center accent line, pierced ears, blonde lambswool wig over original Schmitt pate that is impressed "1", original composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with flat-cut derriere, nicely costumed in antique silks. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 1 Bte SGDG (head). Comments: Schmitt et Fils, circa 1878, earliest model of that firm's bisque bebe. Value Points: very beautiful example whose dramatic eyes contrast the plump sculpting and delicate bisque, original body and body finish, early head/body articulation system that is rarely found.
