28" (71 cm.) Bisque socket head with elongated and very full cheeks and chin, brown glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, mauve blushed eye shadow, brushstroked brows, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth, shaded and outlined lips, separately-modeled pierced ears, brunette human hand-tied wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden fully-jointed body with straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 13 (head) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body). Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1885, the model was designed and sculpted by noted French artist Carrier-Belleuse on commission from Jumeau, and is known as "Bebe Triste" in reference to the sad expression. Value Points: beautiful bebe with very fine quality of bisque and painting, original body and body finish, wonderful antique costume.
