Description
13" (33 cm.) The silk-covered cornet with wonderful hand-painted scene has elaborately-carved bone handle and a silk ruffled cap which conceals a double-faced bisque head hidden inside the cornet. When the handle is moved up and down, the head pops up and down; one side depicts a handsome young lad with blue glass eyes and closed mouth, and the other side depicts the same lad with a crying expression and blue glass eyes. There is a ruffled collar at the neck and a silk bodice which attaches to the interior of the cone. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, circa 1880. Value Points: very rare and delightful surprise whose luxury details include hand-painted scene on cornet, bone carved handle and rare double-faced head with original cap and costume.
