Description
3 3/4" (9 cm.) diam. saucers. Of finest white porcelain, with unusual octagon-shaped pot, sugar and creamer, footed cups with rectangular-shaped handles, and ribbed saucers. Each piece is richly accented and trimmed with gold leaf, and the tea service for two includes lidded teapot, lidded sugar, creamer, and two cups and saucers. The set is presented in its original fitted oval box with lid. The interior of the lid has original label "Lemaire, Rue Chapon 2. Magasin de jouets d'enfants". Excellent condition. The prestige toy shop, Lemaire, was located at that Chapon street address from 1838 until about 1858, and was "the largest bazaar for charming frivolities", according to an 1840 Psyche journal, which went on to describe the Lemaire shop as a "child's Eldorado".
