Description
20" (50 cm.) Standing upon a velvet-covered wooden base is bisque head girl with narrow blue glass eyes, heavy eyelids, brushstroked brows, painted lashes, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth modeled open as though crying, with sculpted tongue and row of beaded upper teeth, shaded lips, pierced ears, brunette mohair wig over cork pate, carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, bisque lower arms with long slender fingers, rose silk costume and shoes. She is dangling the head of a bisque mignonette from her right hand with strings suspending to the all-bisque body, giving the suggestion her little doll is broken. When wound, music plays, she turns her head from side to side, nods, and alternately raises the bebe in despair, and then lifts her left hand to dab at her face with lace edged handkerchief. Condition: generally excellent, fine professional restoration to two fingers of right hand and feet of all-bisque doll. Marks: 211 (and artist check marks). L.B. (key). Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1890, with very rare art character bisque head commissioned from Jumeau. Value Points: charming activity enhanced by realism of rare character face, mechanism and music function well.
