11" (28 cm.) Carved wooden head, carved and painted black hair with defined center part that extends down the entire back of head, two tightly coiled chignons at the back with faux carved coral hairpins, stippled bangs, carved and tinted facial features, hint of smile, cloth body, wooden hands. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Chinese Door of Hope Mission, circa 1920, the doll represents modern bride without veiled hat. Value Points: very rare and distinctive coiffure, wearing red silk kimono with rare center closure, coral lining to match coral underblouse, blue underblouse, red skirt with unusual ruching at the sides and tassel trim, and with beaded no-veil headdress.
