Description
16" (41 cm.) Porcelain shoulderhead with gleaming ebony black complexion, sculpted short hair in firmly-shaped right curls, deeply-sculpted eyes with up-turned black pupils and pronounced eye whites, closed mouth, brown muslin body, kid leather arms, antique costume, undergarments, matching bonnet. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 3. Comments: Germany, circa 1885. Value Points: especially fine flawless complexion, with attached note indicating that the doll was in the collection of Mrs. Wheeler of Huntsville, Ark. Since 1962 when acquired from its original owner, an elderly black lady in that city. It was then acquired in 1970 by Myla Perkins at the auction of the Wheeler collection.
