19" (48 cm.) Black-complexioned paper mache socket head with hand-sculpted details, black tightly-curled hair with arranged puff curl at the sides and crown and with comb-marked back hair, thickly-sculpted brows with black tinting, small brown glass inset eyes, pointy upturned nose, closed mouth with wide smile forming deep cheek dimples, row of painted teeth, black composition body jointed at shoulders and hips, antique costume. Condition: generally excellent, paint rubs at lower throat, body is of the period but not original from Moss. Marks: 11824. Comments: Leo Moss, early 1900s, believed to be one of his earliest dolls. Value Points: captivating expression of a delighted wide-eyed child with beaming smile, especially fine sculpting of hair and brows.
