16" (41 cm.) A gentleman with pale bisque head, blue glass inset eyes, painted features, closed mouth, white mohair periwig, carton torso and legs in seated pose, wire upper arms, carved wooden lower arms and hands, wearing silk Marquis costume with brocade vest and lace jabot and cuffs is seated on a wooden upholstered arm chair, posed behind a wooden harp with ormolu trim. When wound, he moves his head side to side and leaning forward and back in time to the playing of the harp; he strums his hands realistically up and down the strings of the harp. Melodious music plays. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: attributed to Jean Roullet, circa 1880. Value Points: well-preserved luxury automaton with pleasing musical background, realistic movements, choice bisque and presentation.
