13" (33 cm.) Bisque socket head with different face on two sides of head which can be alternately revealed by flipping the paper mache cap at the crown; one face depicting a crying child with reddened face, narrow squinting eyes in deeply set sockets, painted lashes and brows, closed mouth modeled as though open, well-modeled tongue and row of tiny teeth; the other face depicts a gentle-featured child with painted blue eyes, eyeliner, painted lower lashes, feathered brows, closed mouth, shaded lips with tiny row of painted teeth, blonde mohair wig, hollow torso designed for use as candy container, composition and wooden ball-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent, except high on crown (beneath the paper mache cap) is a one-piece bisque reglue. Comments: Leon Casimir Bru, circa 1880. Value Points: very rare double-face doll, with original hidden candy container body, gorgeous antique gown, undergarments.
