19" (48 cm.) Bisque shoulderhead with brown sculpted hair waved behind her pierced ears into elaborate braids and with two original drilled holes in hair for ribbon insertion, blue glass inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, lightly feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth, accented lips, bisque forearms, very firmly stuffed muslin upper torso attached to wooden dowel pedestal which is covered with four tiers of folded paper fortunes, each of the fortunes are French language, written in ink script. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Simon and Halbig for the French market, circa 1870. Value Points: very luxurious example of the fortune telling doll ("bebe a bonne aventure"), with four tiers of fortunes, antique costume including elaborate jewelry which includes coral cluster with sign of the zodiac.
