Description
18" (46 cm.) Standing upon a velvet-covered base is a bisque head doll with brown glass paperweight eyes, lushly painted lashes, brushstroked brows, rose blushed eye shadow, closed mouth, pierced ears, auburn mohair wig, carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms, in vintage silk and velvet costume depicting a chef, holding a wine bottle in one hand and a copper pan in the other. When wound, he turns head side to side and then nods toward the bottle which he appears to lift to his lips for a drink; his left arms moves forward and back and music plays. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau (and artist checkmarks). Comments: French, circa 1890, Roullet et Decamps. Value Points: charming automaton in beautiful presentation, with well-functioning amusing motions and fine music.
