39" (99 cm.) One-piece carved wooden head and torso with oval face, elongated throat, ample sculpted bosom and tiny waist, sculpted hair with incised comb marks overall and an unusual spiral-twisted braided coronet at the crown, original hole at the crown for insertion of coiffe, elaborate painted spit curls frame the sides of the face, painted complexion and facial features, half-moon shaped blue eyes with spiral details, fringed upper lashes and brows, refined shaping of nose, shaded nostrils, sculpted lips, elaborately-painted scrolls, garlands and flowers on the yoke, dowel-jointing at the shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, well-shaped fingers, painted slippers, wearing early night dress and lace-edged pants. Condition: original finish overall albeit extensive horizontal craquelure. Comments: Grodnertal, circa 1830. Value Points: luxury details, indicated by grand size and regal presence, include exceptional sculpting of hair and fancily-painted yoke.
