Description
10" (25 cm.) Each has bisque socket head, dark glass eyes, painted lashes and brows, closed mouth, five-piece paper mache body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 13/0. Comments: German, circa 1890, probably for the French market. Value Points: wonderfully preserved pair, wearing their original elaborate costumes, the girl in rose silk kimono with double bands of embroidery at the edges, over silk trousers and slippers, and with gilt metal ornament on her tasseled headdress, tassel ties, and carrying a basket of silk flowers in an embroidered silk basket; the boy in a simple ivory and blue silk costume over brown silk trousers, and with stacked heels, black cap over a very long queue.
