20" (51 cm.) Bisque socket head, pear-shaped elongated face with very full cheeks and chin, large grey glass paperweight inset eyes with pronounced spiral threading and darker grey outer rims, thick dark eyeliner, painted dark lashes, mauve blushed eye shadow, arched brushstroked brows, pointy-tip nose with shaded accents, closed mouth, defined space between the accented lips, dimpled chin, philtrum and lip corners, pierced ears, auburn mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrists and flat-cut derriere. Condition: bisque excellent, original body and body finish, albeit extensive craquelure. Marks: Sch (crossed swords inside shield, on head and body) 3 (head). Comments: Schmitt et Fils, circa 1882. Value Points: exceptional beauty of the bebe includes sculpting, bisque, and splendid eyes enhanced by dramatic painting. In his book, Fascinating Dolls, Samy Odin described the doll has a "magnificent bebe with intense gaze".
