20" (51 cm.) Pressed bisque socket head with very full cheeks and throat, blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, brush-stroked brows, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with defined space between the outlined lips, separately-applied pierced ears, extended-length blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrists, beautifully costumed in antique dress and bonnet. Condition: small restoration of left upper eyelids, three faint firing lines on upper forehead. Marks: 9 (head) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body). Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1884, the model sculpted by Carrier-Belleuse, the noted French sculptor, known as Bebe Triste in reference to its wistful expressi0n.
