22" (56 cm.) Bisque socket head with very plump cheeks, very deep blue glass paperweight inset eyes, thick dark eyeliner, painted lashes, rose-blushed eyeshadow, brushstroked brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with delicately-outlined lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden fully-jointed body, original metal hands, antique silk bebe dress, undergarments, lace bonnet, shoes. Condition: generally excellent, hands retouched. Marks: P. D. Comments: Petit & Dumoutier, circa 1882. Although the firm existed for more than a half century offering luxury toys, their presentation of this uniquely-sculpted doll lasted for barely ten years, beginning in 1878; it is consequently very rare to find. Value Points: beautiful bebe with splendid eyes contrasted by dramatic eye decoration, original distinctive body.
