Description
9" (23 cm.) h. 10"l. platform. Standing upon a wooden platform with hidden wooden wheels and lithographed paper decorations is a bisque-head clown with blue glass eyes, painted features, open mouth, teeth, blonde mohair curly wig, block torso, wire-articulated arms with wooden hands, and wearing an original silk circus costume. The clown stands behind a large circus drum which rests on a wooden form and is decorated with circus-themed decoupage. When pulled along, music plays and the clown turns his head from side to side, and clangs the drum with the stick and cymbal that he holds. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, attributed to Zinner and Sohne, circa 1890. Value Points: all-original toy with brilliant paper decorations and enchanting movements and music.
