Description
12" (30 cm.) All-composition doll with one-piece torso and over-sized head, jointed short arms and legs, sculpted black bobbed hair, painted facial features including large side-glancing googly eyes, button nose, painted smiling expression with two rows of teeth, carrying original drum. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: early 1920s, the doll was based on the James Swinnerton illustrations for the comic strip series, Canyon Kiddies, which appeared in Good Housekeeping from 1922 until 1941, and which appeared in one book, Canyon Country Kiddies published in 1923. Value Points: rare model with captivating expression, important artist connection. The book, Canyon Country Kiddies is included.
