Description
18" (46 cm.) A bisque doll is standing upon a velvet-covered platform, posed in a jaunty manner, and holding a violin and bow; with very full face, large brown glass paperweight inset eyes, painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with accented lips, pierced ears, one piece carton torso and legs, metal hinged arms, paper mache hands, wearing original burgundy and ivory silk troubadour costume with gold button trim. When wound, he turns his head in a complicated manner and strums the violin, while music plays. Condition: generally excellent, hands retouched, mechanism and music function well. Marks: (original paper music label on the base). Comments: Gustav Vichy, Paris, circa 1865. Value Points: charming young man with original (albeit frail pants) costume, very fine bisque, delightful actions and music.
