11" (28 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta head, sculpted tousled short brown hair under sculpted hat, eyes modeled closed, painted beard stubble, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, painted blue stockings, tan shoes with red buckles, wearing country garb of lambswool and flannel, and posed reclining on his back, head flung backwards as though resting, his head and legs posed on a labeled sack of grain. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, mid-1700s, rare model to find in distinctive pose.
