Description
11" (28 cm.) h. x 17"w. x 12"d. A wooden three-sided stage with decorative lithograph paper cover and wallpaper is designed with a circular revolving cut-out at the center upon which are posed three pairs of 5" bisque-head dolls with glass inset eyes, painted features, open mouth, mohair wigs, painted shoes and socks and original silk and lace costumes. Each couple is attached to the dance floor by a metal rod protruding from the floor, and when the handle at the front is turned, the dance floor revolves, twirling the couples in unison, and, in addition, each couple twirls separately. Meanwhile two more children stand at the back, turning side to side in time to the dance, and one plays the violin. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, circa 1890, Zinner and Sohne. Value Points: the luxury vignette with wonderfully-functioning music and mechanism features eight dolls, each with original wig and costume, set within a room that is decorated with ormolu candle holders, floor mirror and ormolu framed print.
