21" (53 cm.) Pressed bisque socket head with elongated face and very plump cheeks, deep blue glass paperweight inset eyes, thick dark eyeliner, delicately painted lashes, mauve-blushed eye shadow, brush-stroked and feathered brows, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with defined space between the outlined and shaded lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden fully jointed body with straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 3 H. Comments: Aristide Halopeau, circa 1880, the successor to the legendary Barrois doll firm; Halopeau commissioned the sculpture of a unique bebe model, created for him at the Frayon porcelain firm, with painted complexion and facial details by noted Parisian artist, Barnard; only one model was ever offered by the firm and few examples were created. Value Points: hauntingly beautiful face with dreamy expression, finest quality bisque and painting, original soft mohair wig, original body and body finish, beautiful early coral silk dress with embroidered tulle trim, undergarments, stockings, leather shoes, and elaborate bonnet with original French milliner's label.
