Description
13" (33 cm.) Standing upon a wooden platform with lithographed paper cover, fringed edging, and metal spoked wheels, is a bisque headed doll with blue glass eyes and painted black mask face, wooden block torso, metal upper arms and legs, wooden lower arms and legs. The doll is wearing its original clown costume with ruffled collar, brass bells, bells attached to painted shoes, and matching jester cap. When pulled along, the clown waves arms and legs up and down in a cheerful manner. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 5/0. Comments: for the French market, possibly Zinner and Sohne, circa 1890. Value Points: fine state of preservation, rare painted mask face, original costume.
