16" (41 cm.) Bisque socket head with sharply-defined facial features, upturned rounded nose, tiny brown glass flirty eyes, painted lashes, thick comma-shaped brows with sculpting details, closed mouth with deeply-upturned smiling lips that form double dimples at each cheek edge, impressed dimple at philtrum, reddish brown hair with topknot and side curls, composition and wooden fully-jointed unique body with sculpted brown shoes and white socks, antique costume and holding tiny metal toy car. Condition: generally excellent, chips to thumbs and little fingers. Marks: K*R Simon & Halbig 124. Comments: Kammer and Reinhardt, circa 1913, the uniquely modeled urchin was commissioned by K*R to represent the popular mischievous character Moritz, originally created by the German author Wilhelm Busch in the mid-19th century, and later immortalized for the American market in the comic strip "The Katzenjammer Kids". Value Points: among the rarest of the German character dolls with original distinctive sculpting, superb bisque, and original unique body that was used for this model only.
