13" (33 cm.) All-carved wooden doll depicting a slender adult man, having one-piece head and torso with elongated throat, angular face, sculpted brown hair in deep waves with forelock curls and long sideburns, painted blue eyes, black upper eyeliner, single-stroke brows, closed mouth, dowel jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, defined fingers. Condition: generally excellent, few flakes to hair at back of head and light craquelure at back neck, possible early re-varnish. Comments: early 1800s. Value Points: rare male doll with rare brown hair and sideburns, wearing original hand-stitched costume comprising brown chintz trousers, muslin tunic, leather slippers, lined brown silk robe under blue homespun fitted coat; ink accession number at the back neck indicates its one-time placement in museum.
