24" (61 cm.) Bisque socket head, large and very deep blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, mauve-blushed eye shadow, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with defined space between the shaded and outlined lips, dimpled chin, separately modeled pierced ears, brunette mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden eight loose ball-jointed body with straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 11X (head) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body). Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1880. Value Points: early portrait model, X series, which is rarely found, and has very compelling expression combining gentleness and drama; fine painting of features including blushed eye shadow, original body and body finish, and wearing superb antique dress of waffle-weave pique with attached cutwork cape, undergarments, very lavish antique bonnet, and original Jumeau aqua knit stockings and aqua kidskin shoes signed "E, Jumeau Med. d'Or Paris".
