Rare German Black Paper Mache Child with Painted Earrings, Early Chair

8" (20 cm.) One-piece paper mache head and torso with ebony black complexion, black flock-sculpted hair, painted features, small brown eyes with pronounced eye whites, closed mouth, painted red earrings, black muslin torso (which may have had crier bellows originally) and upper arms, black paper mache lower arms and legs, original silk costume included. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, circa 1860. Value Points: wonderful little character has original paint, rare red earrings, and his own little stenciled wooden chair with rush seat.
